FAQ for People on a Whole Food, Plant-Based Diet

    What supplements should I take?

As long as you are eating a wide variety of plant-based whole foods, you will be getting the nutrients you need, unless you have a specific health condition. However, people on whole food, plant based diets will not get enough B-12 unless they are eating fortified foods or taking a supplement. B-12 is a very important vitamin for the human body, where it helps with nervous system health and energy production. The only source for it are microorganisms in the soil, and the only way humans get it in their diet is from eating foods that have been fortified. This includes animal products, where it is added to the animal’s feed. It can be found in fortified foods like plant-based milks, and nutritional yeast. But the best way to ensure you are getting enough is to take a supplement every day. I take a 1000 mcg supplement each day. For more details, check out Nutrition Facts!
